The last check before the truck is the one your customer judges you by. If a carton holds 23 pieces instead of 24, a label shows the wrong revision or the certificate is missing, nobody at the receiving dock cares how good the parts were. A final inspection checklist before shipping makes the last gate run the same way every time: the same checks, in the same order, signed for every lot. Watch a lot checked, held and released in a short final inspection demo.
No Lot Leaves the Dock Until Every Final Check Has Passed
iFactory Final Inspection Module runs lot checklists by voice or handheld entry, scans labels against the order and builds the CoC automatically. If any check fails, the shipment is held until it passes.
Final, Outgoing and Pre-Shipment: One Gate, Three Owners
The names overlap, but the checks sit in different places and belong to different people. What they share is one rule from ISO 9001:2015 clause 8.6: release to the customer must not go ahead until the planned checks are complete and satisfactory, unless a relevant authority, and the customer where applicable, approves otherwise. The release record must also trace to whoever authorised it. Map your own release points with our support team.
A Free Final Inspection Checklist You Can Tick Here
Use this as a starting point and add your own drawing characteristics, customer rules and test limits. Each box can be ticked on this page, or spoken item by item on the floor. Record the measured value where there is one, not just a tick, so the lot record shows what was actually found. Load it with your own parts and limits in a checklist setup session.
ISO 2859-1 Sampling, Worked Through on One Lot
Pre-shipment inspections in consumer goods commonly sample by ISO 2859-1, which uses an acceptance quality limit, or AQL, for each defect class. The lot size gives a code letter, the code letter gives the sample size, and each AQL gives an accept and reject number. Here is Lot L-5521, an illustration: 640 cartons of 24 cabinet hinges at general inspection level II. Check your own plans with our sampling specialists.
ISO 2859-1 is built for a continuing series of lots, with switching rules that move between normal, tightened and reduced inspection. For a single isolated lot, ISO 2859-2 offers plans indexed by limiting quality instead.
Say the Result and Let the System Apply the Rule
Inspectors speak or key in their counts, and iFactory checks them against the sampling plan for that lot. A failed class holds the shipment, raises the nonconformance and opens the sort list at once.
Four Label Scans Before a Carton Is Sealed
A wrong label can turn a perfect lot into a complaint. At final inspection the aim is simple: every field on the label agrees with the order and with what is in the carton. Deeper print quality grading belongs at the printer, not at the dock. If labels print straight from order data, one scan at sealing is usually enough; if anyone types fields at the printer, check every field. See label scans tied to a lot in a short scan demo.
Packaging Checks That Stop Short Cartons and Transit Damage
Packaging protects the parts on the road and proves the count at the other end. A carton weight check is a cheap way to catch a missing piece without opening the carton, as long as the limits are set from real weights. The numbers below are assumed for the illustration. Set weight limits for your cartons with our support team.
The Documents That Travel With Every Lot
A certificate of conformance is a signed statement that the lot meets its requirements, so it should be built from that lot's results, never signed ahead of them. The other documents depend on the customer and the sector. Keep the list short, and check each item against the lot before release. See a CoC built from inspection data in a document demo.
When a Lot Fails: Hold, Sort, Re-Inspect, Release
A failed lot needs a fixed path, or shipping pressure will invent one. The steps below follow Lot L-5521 from the failed minor count to release. Release only happens on a clean re-inspection or with an approved concession, and both are recorded. Agree your hold rules with our support team.
ISO 2859-1 leaves it to the responsible authority to decide whether a resubmitted lot is inspected at normal or tightened level, and whether every defect class is checked again or only the class that failed. Write that choice into the hold procedure before the first lot fails.
How the Last Gate Changes by Industry
The checklist shape stays the same while the critical checks change. These are illustrations, not customer case studies. Build your own versions in a 30-minute session.
Count the Paper Time Behind Every Released Lot
Returns and chargebacks matter most, but price them only from your own records. The paper time is easier to see: writing results, typing the certificate and filing the lot record. Every input below is assumed, so replace each one with your own figures. Our support team can help you build the full case.
Use this as the ceiling for time savings, then compare it with your own baseline after a pilot.
